Text Box:                                                     LONG STAY RESIDENT IN THAILAND Thailand is most fortunate that we have so many natural attractions, be at our beaches, our mountainous regions, our historical sites, our culture, our food and the friendliness of our people who looks forward to welcome all foreigners. There are 7 international airports throughout the country, and with 2 in Bangkok our capitol is an international aviation hub serving more than 100 airlines. Thailand is a piece loving country. Whether it is the popular cities, the mountains, the beach resorts, the natural environment or the rich cultural heritage, Thailand has it all. More than 13 million tourists visiting Thailand every year, Bangkok and Chang Mai are the most popular. Thailand is rich in culture and heritage, and there are many historical sites around the country. There are plenty of social activities that ones can enjoy and participate in, apart from enjoying the diversity of natural environment. The shopping is exotic, from local made products, to renowned international brands. There are numerous department stores and up-market shopping complexes. Shopping in Thailand is good value for money. Thailand is strategically placed in the heart of Asia, the stepping off point to Indochina and South East Asia, which offer a diversity of cultures all in one area. Thai people are warm, friendly easy-going and are eager to welcome all foreigners. There are many forms of transportation systems. The Sky train, Subway, buses, metered taxis, tuk-tuk’s or motorbike Taxis and trains and Ferry services. A current international driving license will enable long stay residents to hire and drive a vehicle. Local well-qualified drivers are also available. Visits up-country can be made with efficient transport network in Thailand, either by airplanes, trains, buses or boats to the islands. MONEY MATTERS AND BANKING The costs of living are very inexpensive in Thailand. One can live in luxury and still enjoy the wholesome comfort imaginable, and be most satisfied. Long stay residents who receive a pension or annuitants may find they have money left over by staying longer in Thailand. The currency is Thai Baht, and there are many foreign exchange facilities all around the country. Changing foreign currency can be done quickly and efficiently at most banks. Major credit cards are accepted nationwide as well. There are also numerous ATM’s readily available countrywide giving access to your home account. Should additional funds be required, there are facilities available for both international transactions and the opening of a local bank account. SUMPTOUS MEALS Thai food is very popular around the world and there is nowhere better to tease the taste buds with the “original” herbs and spices than in Thailand and there is every other type of international cuisines offered by many restaurants. There are both Thai and Western style coffee shops which serve light snacks. Thailand is seen as the “originator” of Take-Away-Food, most of the major international brands are dotted around the country. The choices are amazing inexpensive, whether eating out or eating home. Most department stores and supermarkets are well stocked. To really feel the atmosphere and be a part of living in Thailand, visit the local fruit and vegetable markets will not only be inspiring, but very inexpensive too. COMMUNICATIONS There is an abundance of telephone lines available and costs are inexpensive. All international mobile phone brands are available in Thailand either for rent or purchase. There are numerous internet providers and Internet Café’s are everywhere, and very cheap too. PERFORMANCES There are all kinds of entertainment in Thailand. Thai modern and classical performances are almost weekly, as there is quite a large numbers of expatriates living and working in Thailand. Many clubs presents theatre and musical performances, and many international singers and musical groups visit Thailand annually. Each year there is both an international Music and Dance Festival, featuring operas, classical music, jazz and an annual Film Festival with both local and international movies being presented. Theatres, cinemas, cultural centers all offer outstanding performances. COURSES As the food is popular, many tourists wish to learn the way of preparing and cooking Thai food. There are many courses available for all ages even including visits to the local markets to learn how to buy the ingredients. Taking a singing lesson, enjoying ballroom dancing, joining a theatre group as a performer, computer courses, and the understanding of photography, everything is possible. All these courses are readily available and very inexpensive and the trainers are highly skilled. QUALITY MEDICAL AND DENTAL CARE Thailand has more than 450 private hospitals around the country, 150 of which care especially to international clients. Many are staffed with overseas trained doctors and specialists who offer excellent services and are able to communicate with their “global patients”. Many of the major hospitals also employ language interpreters for patients who come to Thailand with specific translation needs. Bangkok is fast becoming the Medical Hub of Asia with thousands of patients now visiting Thailand purely for medical treatment. And of course, patients recuperate faster with the lifestyle and living standards that the country has to offer. Every hospital has highly qualified dentists with world standard modern equipment. There are many good chemist/pharmacies both in Bangkok and the major centers around in the country with English speaking pharmacists. A number of department stores also have dispensary with qualified pharmacist. Nowhere else in the world other than Thailand can offer quality medical attention under one roof in les than a day with highly trained doctors, dentists and specialists. This is the only country where one can visit a hospital, see a doctor, specialists, have x-rays, pathology tests and receive the medication all in the same convenient location and at a reasonable price. REJUVENATING ACTIVITIES Now known as the Spa capitol of the world, Thailand has for many years used both traditional and herbal treatment in every day life. Traditional Thai massage offers inner tranquility as it combines yoga and acupressure techniques.
